The GTO Wizard PLO solver just got a major overhaul, with the training platform rolling out a wave of new features less than two years after Pot-Limit Omaha support first launched on the site. According to PokerNews, the late July 2026 update covers everything from fully customizable heads-up strategies to tournament-specific ICM solutions, and it arrives on the back of a development pace that has surprised even regular users of the software.
What makes this update notable is not just the length of the feature list, but the fact that GTO Wizard’s PLO product is still relatively young. The tool only launched a couple of months before this round of upgrades, and the speed at which the team has moved from a functional but limited solver to a considerably more complete study platform says a lot about how competitive the solver market has become. Hold’em solving software matured over the better part of a decade. PLO tools are being asked to catch up in a fraction of that time.
Why Pot-Limit Omaha Is So Much Harder to Solve
Anyone who has spent time with both games understands the gap intuitively. In No-Limit Hold’em, each player holds two cards, which keeps the number of possible starting hand combinations, and therefore the size of the decision tree a solver has to work through, relatively contained. Pot-Limit Omaha deals four cards to each player, and typically only two of them get used in the final hand. That single rule change multiplies the number of possible holdings and board interactions many times over.
A GTO solver works by running countless iterations of a hand, adjusting strategy incrementally until it converges on something close to game-theory optimal play, meaning a strategy that cannot be exploited no matter how an opponent responds. In Hold’em, that process is already computationally heavy. In PLO, with far more hand combinations, tighter equity distributions, and more coordinated boards, the same process demands dramatically more processing power and time. Nodelocking and Player Profiles Bring the Solver Closer to Real Opponents
Pure GTO output is useful, but it describes an idealized opponent who never makes mistakes. Real players do, constantly, and that is where nodelocking comes in. The new nodelocking capability lets users manually adjust how a hypothetical opponent behaves at a given decision point and then have the solver recalculate the optimal counter strategy against that specific, flawed tendency. In plain terms, a player can model a specific leak, such as an opponent who overfolds to river aggression or overcalls with weak equity, and see exactly how to exploit it.
To make that process faster, GTO Wizard has also added eight predefined opponent profiles covering common player types. GTO-savvy regulars, “fish,” calling stations, maniacs, tight-aggressive and loose-aggressive regulars, nits, and a more unusual archetype the platform calls “Glass Cannon.” Rather than building an exploit strategy from scratch, users can select one of these templates as a starting point and adjust from there. Postflop ICM Solutions Address a Long-Standing Tournament Gap

The update introduces postflop ICM solutions specifically for tournament situations, with configurable prize structures, stack depths, and bounty values. That configurability matters because a final table with a flat payout structure calls for different postflop decisions than a bounty tournament with the same chip counts. Players who study tournaments seriously, rather than treating every hand as a cash game decision, now have a PLO-specific tool built for that purpose.
Study and Training Tools Get a Broader Refresh
Beyond the new solving capabilities, GTO Wizard has reworked several of the tools players use to actually absorb the output. Study mode now includes improved filtering options, a redesigned preflop matrix, and new breakdown tabs meant to make large solutions easier to digest rather than overwhelming. On the training side, the platform added multi-tabling support, a dedicated drill mode, a new information panel, and performance statistics that track how a user’s decisions compare to solver-approved play over time. The preflop solution libraries for both cash games and multi-table tournaments were also expanded, giving players more starting-hand reference material across formats.
Faster Solving Across the Board
Feature additions aside, raw speed was clearly a priority for this release. PLO river spots now solve at roughly twice the speed they did at the product’s original launch, and GTO Wizard says it held exploitability at just 0.1% of the pot while making that gain, meaning the faster solutions are not noticeably less precise. Hold’em spots benefited even more, solving three to six times faster thanks to broader technology improvements the company applied across its product line rather than PLO alone. The platform’s maximum tree size was also increased, which allows for solving deeper stacked situations that would previously have been out of reach or required heavy simplification.
